Delete Your Account and Data
NorthLog, operated by MotionSM
You can ask us to delete your NorthLog account and the data stored with it at any time, for any reason. You do not need to give a reason, and there is no charge. This page explains exactly how to make that request, what gets deleted, what we are legally required to keep, and how long each takes.
1. How to Request Deletion
Email us
Send a message to support@northlog.ca with the subject line Delete my NorthLog account and data.
Include the email address on your account
So we can find your records, send the request from the email address you use with NorthLog, or name it in the message. If you are not sure which address that is, tell us what you do know and we will help you find it.
We confirm before deleting anything
We reply within 5 business days to confirm the request is genuine and to tell you what will be removed. Nothing is deleted until you confirm. This step protects your logbook from a request you did not make.
Deletion completes within 30 days
Once you confirm, your account and cloud data are permanently deleted within 30 days. We email you when it is done.
2. Deleting Data From Your Device
NorthLog stores your records on your device first and syncs them to the cloud. Deleting your account removes the cloud copy. To remove the copy held on your phone, tablet or computer, uninstall the app — local data is removed with it.
If you want to clear your records but keep using NorthLog, open Settings › Clear all flights in the app. That removes your flight records without deleting your account.
3. What Gets Deleted
When your deletion request completes, we permanently remove:
- Flight log records — date, time, location, duration, altitude, distance, notes
- Maintenance records — tasks, technicians, parts, service history
- Aircraft and battery records — serial numbers, purchase dates, cycle counts
- Pilot profiles and certificate details — name, certificate number, type, issue date
- Uploaded files — certificate images and PDFs, RPAS WILCO site surveys and mission reports
- Your account record and any organisation membership
- Your email address and display name
4. What Is Kept, and For How Long
Aviation law requires some records to be held for a set period even after an account closes. Where that applies, the data is moved to a restricted archive, is no longer visible or usable in the app, and is permanently deleted the moment the retention period ends.
Flight records — minimum 12 months
Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs 901.48) require operators to retain flight records for at least 12 months. Where this applies, records are held in a restricted archive until the period lapses, then permanently deleted.
Maintenance records — minimum 24 months
CARs 901.48 requires maintenance records to be retained for at least 24 months. The same restricted archive and automatic deletion applies.
Billing records — as required by law
Subscription and payment records held by Apple, Google, or Stripe are retained by those providers under their own terms and Canadian tax law. NorthLog does not store your payment details at any point.
If none of these obligations apply to your records, everything is deleted outright with nothing archived.
5. Export Your Logbook First
Deletion cannot be undone. Before you request it, consider exporting your records — open Export in the app and save a PDF or CSV. Your logbook is a compliance record, and you may need it after you stop using NorthLog.
6. Cancelling Your Subscription
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a paid subscription, because subscriptions are managed by the store you bought them from, not by NorthLog. Cancel through Google Play › Subscriptions on Android, or Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions on iPhone, Mac or iPad. If you subscribed through our website, email us and we will cancel it for you.
